G-FACTOR is a young talent show to be held once again at this year's Galtres Festival, with the winner(s) being offered a main stage slot to perform in front of thousands.

The idea behind the show is to encourage and celebrate the extraordinary talent of young people in Yorkshire in the areas of music and dance. The show will differ significantly from the commercial TV talent shows, in that we are looking for original compositions rather than covers, and genuine talent rather than commercial potential.  Take a look at our music & dance selection policy for more about where we are coming from.

Entries are invited from young people at a school or sixth form college in Yorkshire, aged 9-19 and can include performances that fit into any of the three categories listed below:

• Music/song
• Dance
• Performing Arts (including stand up comedy, conjouring etc)

Each entrant may be a single person or a group of up to 10 people.

Each entrant should prepare two performances, each of two to four minutes' duration. Of these one must be an original composition, devised especially for Galtres Festival, and may not have previously been performed in public. The second performance may be a cover, or may also be an original composition. Performances may be sung, instrumental, or dance, or a combination of these. We would prefer that there are no pre-recorded backing tracks, although will accept these for dance-only performances.

A panel of judges, which will be experienced music and dance industry specialists, will allocate two marks to your performance, each with equal weighting - one for performance, and the other for composition.

Depending on the number of entries received, we may hold qualifying heats on the Friday afternoon immediately before the festival at the festival site. The G-FACTOR show will take place on the Saturday afternoon, and the winner will be invited to perform on the Sunday. The location will be The Little Top - a marquee with a stage and PA system, a drum-kit and a piano.
