The Savoy Ballroom were born in October 2010, starting as a three-piece with Chris Mather, Hilary Jones and Justin Curry.
They spent several months having fun with their songs and tightening up their three-part harmonies. Later, Jacob Harrison the double-bassist was recruited and finally Andy Pomfrett; drummer extraordinnaire. When the band heard Andy's bass voice, they quickly added a fourth layer of harmonies to their already richly melodic songs.
All of The Savoy Ballroom's songs are quirky, funny or sometimes dark stories. The band are probably best known for the Knitter's Curse, a crazy whirlwind of fun about a girl who knits gifts for her boyfriends, only to find that shortly afterwards they leave her. Undeterred, she finds a new man and a new gift, but soon both the relationship and the woollen present are unravelled.
Fans sometimes bring along knitting needles to gigs to play along with the drum and knitting needle solo, and you may even spot them wearing "don't knit for your lover" t-shirts. The song has inspired a stop-motion animation which is currently in production; due for release in the Summer of 2012.>br? The Savoy Ballroom are certainly not your average band. The construction of the songs are unusual with time and key signature changes aplenty. With some pretty well trained musicians on board, fans can expect jaw-dropping set-pieces in almost every song.
Be warned! The Savoy Ballroom's songs are so catchy, you may find yourself with an earworm that lasts for months.
