Maia
acapella / acoustic / folk / pop /

After a critically acclaimed performance at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 2011 and residencies in London at the monthly Folke Newington night and the Magpies Nest Collective, the band headlined at The Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre on New Years Eve in 2011. During the year that followed the band played over 80 shows including Hop Farm Festival, Larmer Tree, Port Eliot, London Folk Weekend, Wilderness, Broadstairs FolkWeek, Musicport and No Direction Home.
Their album, released in October, received many 4 and 5 star reviews and was a 'Time Out Album of the week'. The band have also been well supported on the radio regionally and nationally including BBC 6 Music (Tom Robinson) as well as being picked for Best of 2012 on Radio 4s Loose Ends Culture Show.

“youthful, spirited, richly atmospheric and intelligently off-centre alt.folk pop” – Time Out

“A special mention has to go to Maia, a ridiculously young folk band from Huddersfield who spent all afternoon sucking crowds into TheDen with their cutesy leaf-let marketing ploy (yes, you’ve guessed it, a flyer printed on a leaf) and then spend 45 minutes charming the audience and making sure the effort of finding them was worth it.” – Music OMH (Cambridge Folk)

“The most impressive aspect of Maia the Band is that they are more adventurous and eclectic within the course of a single song than some artists dare to be in their entire career”. - For Folks Sake.
