Last Winter Dance Party

25 Aug 2012   17:30 to 18:00

New band to the Hull scene and taking it by storm with their unique blend of trumpet infused americana. Last Winter Dance Party are a Leeds/Hull based band who sound fresh and exciting, taking influences from everywhere it is hard to pin point their sound or compare them to others. Songs coming from an acoustic folk pop origin come bursting into elements of americana and mariachi styles with prominent use of lead trumpet lines and glorious harmonies. LWDP write very considered songs, which you will remember, and do this with warm textures and with an exciting honesty. Obviously highly experienced musicians in their own right the band somehow manage to do for the song only what is necessary, and know when to hold back.

Within a couple of local shows LWDP found themselves headlining to a sold out crowd and got asked to appear on BBC introducing within weeks of being together. In recent weeks they have secured a headline slot at Galtres festival as well as reaching number 1 in the Strummerville (Joe Strummer foundation) download charts in only one week of entering it alongside hundreds of bands.

"We rounded off the tour with a bang alongside the insanely talented Last Winter Dance Party - whose individual musicianship and collective sound was the most impressive thing we’ve seen for many a month - we hope to get a few shows together with them soon, check ‘em out!" - Cattle And Cane

"New to the scene yet with members full to the brim with experience having all played in some of the finest bands this city's ever produced over the years. It's not indie or rock, it's certainly not specifically folk or americana, but it's joyous and beautiful and when the brass kicks in for a Tijuana treat on the odd song you know you're witnessing something special." Mark Page - The Sesh / Ten Foot City Magazine
