Roger Davies

26 Aug 2012

Roger Davies is a West Yorkshire song smith with the ability to tell a good story. You'll be instantly taken by his cool delivery and easy going relaxed stage presence.

Roger takes his birthright seriously, he has an abundance of affectionate songs centred around his hometown of Brighouse and surrounding area. Huddersfield Town is one of Roger’s personal favourites and a big hit with his local audiences. “People ask me how I can make Huddersfield, Bradford or Brighouse sound romantic but it’s easy if you see things the way I do. Besides, whereas some people write songs with the help of a rhyming dictionary, I refer to my A-Z of West Yorkshire! His wry sense of humour is evident in songs such as Beer Belly Blues in which he name checks over 100 local pubs while The Ghost of Lily Fogg describes an encounter with the spirit of the (in) famous Lily Fogg of Halifax. Other self penned Yorkshire songs in Roger’s repertoire include Bradford Girl, White Roses and Percy Shaw which brilliantly tells the story of how the Halifax inventor discovered his idea for Cats Eyes.
