Festival of music and dance

 An acoustic session by Farlington-based singer songwriter Alistair McIntosh, showcasing a selection of songs he has written and played both solo and with the band. The rest of his band, Box of Goats, are bound to be in on the act, and are performing later in the day.

Jim Bower is the singer/songwriter responsible for Leeds-based rock-pop veterans SHATNER, whose second album "Thirteen O''Clock" has recently been released to great critical acclaim. Sadly the rest of the band can't make it to the Galtres Festival but fortunately Jim's "always up for a few beers and a sing song" and will be along with his guitar to play a solo acoustic set comprising some originals, and some covers, but no swearing this time (he promises).

Holly Taymar is one of the North's most respected acoustic performers, returning to Galtres for the FIFTH year! With a delicate, yet soulful voice, stylised finger picked guitar work and a repertoire of unpretentious, poetic songs, Holly's live shows are not to be missed. Holly's natural stage presence and rappor with regular accompanist Christopher Bilton have earned her appearances at Stainsby Folk Festival, Wath Folk Festival, Beverley Folk Festival to name a few, not to mention support gigs for Martha Tilston, Boo Hewerdine, Ben Parker and Edwina Hayes.

A four-piece indie-rock band from Bridlington, with influences ranging from Gary Moore ... to Muse ... to Death Cab for Cuti . This is their Galtres Festival debut, and one we're very excited about.

Sarah Horn & Danny Watson will be joined by Andrew Horn (Sarah's brother) to close the 2010 festival as JiggaWatt-ish.

 

If you're a Galtres regular you'll recognise Sarah & Danny from JiggaWatt & particularly remember last year's storming late night set of fast & furious fiddle tunes.

The Wayfaring Strangers are two York Based singer songwriters who go by the names of Mark ‘Blind Dog’ Wynn and GT Turbo - influences range from Neil Young and Lightning Hopkins to Townes van Zandt. Spotted by the Galtres talent scouts at Little Num Num Club in York, we're expecting this to be a 2008 highlight.


 

 

Box Of Goats is a local five-piece band hailing from Sheriff Hutton, Farlington and Beverley. They have been together for two years playing a mixture of self-penned pop-country-soul-blues, as well as a selection of great songs by other artists. There have been recent sightings of Box Of Goats playing acoustically and electrically at Flaxton, Nunnington, Pocklington, Easingwold, and venues around York. The Goats recently completed a demo CD  which will be available at the festival.

Acoustic/folk/country from the former Lithium Joe front man, Joe Solo makes a very welcome debut at Galtres 2008. Says Joe: "My first loves these days are folk and country, but I''ve spent so long singing punk that the attitude kinda sticks. I love stories too. I''m in awe of the likes of Shane MacGowan, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Joe Strummer, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Steve Earle and Bob Dylan; writers who take the idea of a song lyric into a whole new dimension."

Covers for 6 Miusic lovers from this power trio. The Dilfs made their debut at Galtres Festival 2006 and have since been touring the pubs and clubs of Yorkshire, playing anything from the Small Faces to the Queens of the Stone Age. These local lads from Sutton and Stillington will be enjoying a warm welcome from the home crowd.
